SchoolParasites zijn alternatieven voor noodlokalen bij (basis)scholen. Ze kunnen als leslokaal worden gebruikt, maar zijn vooral bedoeld als onderdak voor nieuwe taken van scholen. Ze zijn ontworpen om in serie te worden geproduceerd. Iedere school in Nederland kan ze bestellen. De drie bekroonde SchoolParasites staan in Hoogvliet en zijn op 24 mei 2004 officieel geopend. Bij basisschool de Tuimelaar staat ëDe Lampioní van industrieel ontwerper Christoph Seyferth, bij de Notenkraker staat de ëDe Bloemí van architect Barend Koolhaas en bij de Jacobusschool ëHet Beestí van architectenbureau Onix.
Recentelijk is ook de publicatie ëSchoolParasites. Nieuwe noodlokalen voor naoorlogs Nederlandí verschenen. In dit boek worden de ontwerpen uitvoerig belicht, evenals de scholen waarbij ze zijn geplaatst. De anoniemeí naoorlogse scholen krijgen een gezicht en een eigen verhaal, waarin zowel de architectuurgeschiedenis als de sociale ontwikkeling van de wijk is weerspiegeld. Aan de hand van de SchoolParasites komen vergaande vragen aan de orde over onderwijs en architectuur, permanentie en tijdelijkheid, en de herstructurering van naoorlogse wijken.
SchoolParasites are alternative emergency classrooms for primary and other schools. They can be used for lessons, but are primarily intended to accommodate the schoolsí new activities. They have been designed for mass production, and can be ordered by any school in the Netherlands. The three prize-winning SchoolParasites are located in Hoogvliet and were officially opened on 24th May 2004. ëThe Chinese Lanterní by the industrial designer Christoph Seyferth at the De Tuimelaar primary school, ëThe Flowerí by architect Barend Koolhaas is at De Notenkraker school and ëThe Beastí by the ONIX architecture firm is at the Jacobus school. The book ëSchoolParasites. Nieuwe noodlokalen voor naoorlogs Nederlandí has also recently been published. In this publication the designs and the schools where they have been located are discussed in detail. The anonymous post-war schools show that they have an identity and a story, which reflects both the architectural history and the social development of the suburb. As a result of the SchoolParasites, important questions have been raised with regard to education and architecture, permanence and transience, and the restructuring of post-war suburbs.
